I never did play Resident Evil Zero; although I did own a Gamecube for a short time. The game cube was annoying to me; the stupid design of gamepad and the swapping of the little discs--I didn't keep the Gamecube long enough to own/play Resident Evil Zero.
I am a fan nonetheless of Resident Evil games. I was pleasantly surprised to hear of the existence of these novelizations of the games.
I had hoped for audio-book versions; but they don't seem to exist. So I bought book 0 and book 1 and decided

This book is perfect for those who are familiar to the Resident evil series. The only reason I choose this book is that it is based off a horror video game, Resident evil. The main characters of this story are, Rebecca chambers a rookie medic of S.T.A.R.S, which her team was send to investigate the murders reported in Raccoon forest. The other main character is Billy a prisoner caught in the middle of this incident. The bravo team contained Edward, Sully, Enrico, Kevin, and Rebecca. The antagon..more

🦇 Very well-written.
🦇 Does a wonderful job of capturing the eerie & creepy settings, while creating an engrossing, suspenseful atmosphere.
🦇 Gloriously gory, violent, & grotesque.
🦇 Includes scenes & situations that differ from the original video game; some item locations & puzzle solutions also differ.
🦇 Provides an intimate look into what the characters are feeling, thinking, & hoping for as they traverse through the predicaments they’re in that you don’t get via the game.

Make no mistake, I am biased with this series. S.D. Perry brought one of my favorite video game franchises of all time to the paperback format, with adaptations of all games from Resident Evil 1 to Resident Evil 0. The only downside to finishing this book was that it was Perry's final.
Zero Hour recounts the events of Resident Evil 0, following Rebecca and Billy through the terrors of Umbrella, leading up to the events of the Spencer Estate. One of my favorite things about author S.D. Perry is h

Oh boy, it's rare that I get to review an unabashedly bad book. It's not really its fault, I know, but that doesn't change the fact that it's bad. Like, really bad.
So let's get the elephant in the room out of the way first: Resident Evil games are not well written. One might even say they're quite poorly written. Resident Evil's relationship with narrative is complicated, distant and at times non-existant. The games are designed around setpieces and then the narrative is slotted in where they co

S. D. Perry, Resident Evil 0: Zero Hour (Pocket, 2004)
Right now I can't tell you how infuriated I am with either Stephani Perry or Pocket Books. I'm not sure who to blame for this particular outrage. But the final (as of now, and since it's been seven years, I think we can safely say “final”) book in the Resident Evil novel series is a prequel, of all silly things, which means all the cliffhangers and unanswered questions we've been left with over the course of the previous six novels are left.

This could be considered a prequel book, as this was also a prequel video game in the Resident Evil video game series. This is a book based on the events of Resident Evil Zero, a prequel to RE 1. It's because of events in RE Zero, that Chris Redfield and his team are sent to into the mansion in RE 1. Rebecca Chambers, side character in RE 1 with Chris Redfield's scenario, joins her S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service) team to investigate the gruesome murders outside the town of Raccoo..more

As a huge fan of Resident Evil, I was stoked to receive most of the novelizations by SD Perry as a gift. While my friends were unable to get their hands on the prelude, Zero Hour, for my sister and I, she was kind enough to allow me to borrow it at my own leisure. Well, since summer has disbursed the busy life of this college student, I have finally had the chance to sink my teeth into the book.
While I have not played the corresponding game to this book particularly, I felt impartial to both Ms.

The first R.E. book that I read. Has been my personal Favorite of the series! Lots of action and suspense! Another must read if you enjoy R.E.! Also it's the first book to read if you want a insight to the story of how the S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Squad) get involved with the nightmare of the Umbrella Corp. A good book even if you have never played the game!

This book was really interesting it had good puzzles in it. But, it sometimes got confusion when it would switch to other characters sometimes i would have to read a sentence over to figure out who was the book following. I would recommend this book to people who like the genre horror.
It was good, but I think my copy had part of the ending cut off. Oh well, I got the gist, because this was after all the very beginning of the whole series I already read, though this is meant to be read last.
Zero Hour's a prequel to S.D. Perry's Resident Evil book series and an adaptation of Resident Evil Zero, telling the tale of what happened to Rebecca Chambers before the incident in the Spencer Mansion. RE Zero is actually an underrated game in the franchise, IMO - it's got two very likeable leads plus a fantastic train opening sequence, and those bits are novelized well here. Rebecca and Billy Cohen are good protagonists, just like how they were in the game, though Rebecca seems kind of distant..more

Zero Hour is numbered as #0 as it's based off of Resident Evil 0, which covers events before the first Resident Evil game (and in this case, the first book). In this case, we follow Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, who are the dual leads of Resident Evil 0.
Zero Hour is kind of more of the same of the other RE books I've read in this series. The writing isn't super spectacular or anything, but it's decent and passable, and doesn't distract from the story at all. It follows the game plot well eno

Great Novelization!
I played the video game 'Resident Evil Zero' on the Nintendo Gamecube several years ago. I am a big Resident Evil fan. I was interested when I seen there was a book based on the game. S.D. Perry did a wonderful job writing the tale. Definitely going to read the other books in the series. She captured the characters and visuals extremely well. Even though I've played the game, the book still gripped my attention start to finish. A must read for any fan of the Resident Evil saga

I've always been a fan of Resident Evil, at least peripherally. I enjoy some of the games and like to watch the movies, regardless of how ridiculous and campy they may be. Though I have never actually played this particular game, I found this book to be quite entertaining. Not a literary gem by any stretch of the imagination, but rather a small, modest story based in one of the most contrived and convoluted video game worlds. It's worth a read of you are a fan of the series to some degree.

The writing style was terrible. It was run on sentences, which ruined the action. I had no idea what was going on the entire time. The descriptions were useless, as I couldn't picture shit in this. And the characters were about as flat the paper they were written on. I had really high hopes for this, and it fell flat. I seriously doubt I'll continue with the series.

Follows the video game storyline pretty closely but offered insights and additional story elements that really livened up the encompassing narrative. Even after playing the game and then reading this, I really enjoyed it. Also great if you do not want to play the game but want to experience the great RE lore.

I’ve never played the games or read any of the books, and even though this one was written last, I felt like I should start at the beginning.
I can’t wait to continue this series. Whatever I thought I knew about the story of the Resident Evil Universe, these zombies were way cooler and more intense than I thought.

Chilling end to series
This book is a faithful adaptation to the prequel of the first Resident Evil book, explaining how one of the main characters ended up where they were in that story. It's just a shame that S.D. Perry never continued this book saga, leaving the 'story' open-ended with the sixth book. Still, an enjoyable experience.
I haven't played the game, but when I do, I already know all the secrets! It was a fun read.

Confession time: I only played Resident Evil 0 once and I didn't like it. No item box, constantly switching between Rebecca and Billy, not to mention the wealth of inconsistencies it brought to Rebecca's character by making her badass in the prequel only to have her revert to a damsel in distress by the time Resident Evil or the REmake rolled around. Ugh. But, moving on.
As my experience with 0 is limited and was sixteen years ago, so is my memory of how the story went down. Reading Zero Hour bro

This book is so good it made me want to play the game again, but I chicken out midway finishing it. It's a very good alternative for us scaredy cats who love the series but cannot play the complete game themselves.
I remember when Resident Evil 0 came out on the GCN in the wake of a stellar remake of the original game. Compared to the remake, RE:0 wasn't a very strong game. In many way, it added a few of the elements I came to loath about the later games, like an over-reliance on switching characters and no need to manage inventory (although at least in this game it's more believable, with items having to be dropped and grabbed and so forth).
That's the game, though. The book is probably a little better. Th

So I bought this book for two reasons. One, I had collected the series back in the day when I was younger and obsessed with all things video game culture, but then I went to college and ended my series collections with the Nemesis adaption. Two, one of my favorite Youtube channels, Two Best Friends Play, began running a series on Resident Evil Zero and it sparked a thought. The Let's Players themselves dubbed it best, this game has very little story. Like, REALLY little story. The game itself fo..more
